We also plan to use brick in the kitchen as my back splash I have had such a hard time trying to decide what I want in there. I think because I just don't like the lay out but it is getting better. Hubby did move the dishwasher so much nicer where it is he had it in the water closet with the hot water heater that was such a pain. I are be hind the folding doors is what I call the water closet it houses the water heater in one area washer and dryer in another, the dishwasher was in the area with the water heater. on the other end I have my pantry. See Hubby checking on my cooking he knows I hait cooking lol. He would be so mad if he knew I got in on camera in his jog clothes. wanted to get a better picture of the Island but this is all I have for now my camera batteries died. Please ignore my mess I will post better pictures when the kitchen is done. Well that about it for now thanks for stopping by. Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316823158351976.post-4978049477773355862010-11-27T22:38:00.001-05:002010-11-27T22:43:48.395-05:00Started Christmas decoratingI started decorating for Christmas, Thanksgiving day. I ask my huddy and son to get the tree and put it up the day before. I had this wonderful idea to decorate it after everyone left on Thanksgiving. We decided to decorate it when the family was still here. I was so excited at the thought of decorating the tree with my mom, children and their families. Hubby brought all the totes in and I told everyone to pick what ever they wanted to put on the tree. I thought what is the worst that can happen I will have to redecorate it. My mom had to put all the ornaments my boys made in school, my one daughter-in-law wanted sparkly, the other wanted rusty and all the ones I made, the little ones wanted Santa. I had a blast we even talked all the men into putting an ornament on the tree, I think they enjoyed it, we women did for sure. I love the tree and by mom having the boys ornaments on this tree I didn't have to bring the other tree into the dinning room and decorate it, you see I put all the ornaments they made in school and the ones I had them make at home on the tree in the dinning room. I feel blessed that we could all decorate the tree together and laugh. we really had a good time.
The walnuts will make a nice stain and the other stuff is for some potpourri, I like to make my own. The girls had a good time, the little tan gal that is my Bella, she is so sweet, she is a barker, funny thing is she don't bark if I put her hat on her. The black gal that is my Star, she don't know she is a dog, shh we don't tell her lol. They was so tired when we got home they did not even notice when I took the boys a walk.

They are like the 2 legged kids around here, they are not spoiled they are loved a lot lol
Star has cheery eye, we adopted her when she was 3 months old, the last family that had her thought she was no good to them with her eye defect. Bella is another story she has a cropped ear and they, her old family did not want her, Buster are 14 lb., yes I said 14 lb. chihuahua was unwanted by his old family because of his size. And are shitzue the family had to give up because of job loss. All are dogs are rescues and we love them. We don't see the eyes, ears, size as defects we see it as the thing that makes them special. I just thought I would share this story. I wish when people get a dog they could make a commitment to it, if they had a child that had a so called defect, would they give it up, or love it less. I know most people would tell me it's not the same. I love all my dogs they are a part of the family, they ask for so little and give so much. Thanks for visiting and I would love to hear your stories about your extended family.
Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316823158351976.post-2856923156655937652010-09-28T20:12:00.000-04:002010-09-28T23:22:20.727-04:00An old rocking chair

I found this rocking chair at a yard sale, I have a hard time believing that some one could sell a family heirloom. I' am so sentimental, and to think that they could sell grandma's rocking chair for $10.00 I just could not believe it. Ok I know it is just a chair to us, but to them it should have been the family history. Now don't get me wrong I love the chair, and I for one am glad they sold it to me. I do have fun story that goes with the chair, well 2 of them . My husband ask why I need a rocking chair when I have one from when my children was babies, he just does not get it . I brought the chair in and my grandson was here he said because pap, that's what he calls him, that is a little chair it's my size and I don't have a rocking chair. It is a small chair when I ask the grandson how tall his grandma was he replied 4' 6'' and she could swing a mean switch lol. this reminded me of my own grandma she was 4' 9'' and we did not give grandma no static. As I look back I still have no idea why we was always saying grandma will get us, because in reality she never even scold us that we can remember.Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316823158351976.post-67525477140770628802009-09-28T10:18:00.006-04:002010-09-29T20:54:59.654-04:00My FireplaceI wanted a fireplace, every time I would bring it up hubby had the same things to say. You had one ( was electric) hamster got loss chewed the cord kids would turn the heater on in the summer. We don't have the room what are you going to get rid of, have to work it in the budget .

You know how men are , I told him we can build one it is cheaper and I have the perfect spot for it. He was not buying it , I was at the thrift store and what did I find , a fireplace insert. I was so excited I came home with my $5.00 insert and said well can we build it now. He was not as happy as me I can tell you that he is not in to building or repairing things . He once again said we don't have the room, wait till I get the time , I will see .

I explained that we have the built in book shelf never used really only for clutter we can take out the middle shelf and turn it in to a nice fireplace well I got the shoulder shrug . I thought about it and when he went to work the next day I started to work on it, you see I have a trick if I want him to do something I take it apart then he has to help put it back together lol. Yes sneaky I know but it's the only way to get him to fix or redo it. So I took the middle shelf out then measured and cut my boards had to build a frame to make the opening smaller. Faced it with bead board ,put molding around the opening . Wow all I need it a mantel and some paint , my youngest son helped with the mantel . I painted the inside black to dark so Ineed brick well

I have no brick so I painted faux brick inside and then painted the out side my 2 sons put the mantel on, hubby got home and was really surprised he did like it he had to admit . The next day

when I was looking at it it just look top heavy so I thought platform is what it needs so back out to the garage I built my platform stained it the same color my son used for the mantel . So now hubby has told everyone to come look at my fireplace he really likes it but he is just happy he didn't have to help lol .

Supplies needed for brick

1"x1" scrub brush ( you know the ones for dishes)

sea sponge

3 foam brushes

black paint for base coat

brick or barn red paint (mine is barn red it's what I had)

sandstone paint color

harvest gold paint color

slate gray paint (slat gray, harvest gold, sandstone are all acrylic craft paint)

clear sealer ( buy at walmart )

Paint the base coat black let dry use sponge and sponge on red dab the paint on thick it good
let dry use foam brush just the tip of it lightly add the other colors one color at a time random as real brick would be , now you can use a foam brush and some lite gray paint and go in a pattern
dab your faux mortar in as brick would be . let dry overnight now seal I used spray sealer you can use what you want .Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316823158351976.post-80883453965785717072009-09-22T02:11:00.000-04:002009-09-22T23:54:40.372-04:00CraftingI have taken a little time to get some crafting done. Most of my crafts are from things I see and like so I make my own pattern. I like to try to do that it makes me fell more creative also I can just do my own thing. How many of you fell restricted when you use a pattern or fell disappointed when it don't turn out like the one you see in the picture. I don't always get mine the way I want them but if I make my own pattern then I can change it as I go. Most of my patterns start out on paper as a sketch then on to news paper witch is my final pattern.

So I had Saturday with the house mostly to myself not to often I get that. I home school my 17 year old and my 22 year old and his wife had to move back home not sure how long but it has been 3 months now . I love them but they are really messy and I should complain lol.

How did I spend my day! crafting it was allot of fun. I need the hole house when I craft I had 3 rooms a mess lol.I like to cut my patterns in the dinning room on the table.I have a craft room but it is as small as a closet so not a lot of room for spreading out . Hubby ask why I need 3 rooms when I craft. I told him if he put a sink and stove in my craft room I would stay out of the kitchen,he had to laugh.I really don't like cooking , I cook every day for my family like it or not it has to be done. They don't understand why I don't like cooking they say I am a good cook . If they had 3 brothers all football players and a mom that worked night shift they would know . I used to like to cook to help my mom out but my brothers made fun of every thing I cooked .

Well back to crafting I still have a few things that need finished . I did take some pictures of a few things I hope you like them . My daughter-in-law said my witch was the ugliest thing she had ever seen till she saw my pumpkinhead doll . I still need to grubby my scarecrows . I hope you like my witches hat I think it needs something not sure what But I will work on it . I had fun working on my pillows. The pumpkin with the hat on was a lot of fun I also used the same pattern and made a scarecrow . I made the sheep about 3 weeks ago but thought I would share them I also made a few of the pumpkins last year the White one is new this year they may still get a little grubby not sure yet.Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316823158351976.post-12858471750108890982009-09-18T22:42:00.000-04:002009-09-18T23:58:38.267-04:00My Week

We have been working on my kitchen, painted a nice creamy yellow. Just when I thought we was done the refrigerator made a gurgle and water pored out the bottom. So hubby shops for new frig well he came home with a white side by side with ice maker in door. I was happy with this till problem we had to move the cabinets over 2 inches then the water line had to be fixed the shut off broke off . With cabinets moved and new shut off in place frig is in and working, touch up need to be done so get the paint back out gee what started as a fresh coat of paint turned in to a week long project. I had painted the cabinets a few weeks back , sanded, painted, sanded and distressed then stained . I went with a cream color Bleached Wheat and a Walnut stain over them. Still need to put new flooring down

Feliciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05001268869312987668noreply@blogger.com5
